This place has the worst lunch food ever. Food is old and cold and they do not clean up are at all. Do not eat here.

The bolognese sauce is superb, it reminds me to the one my aunt makes. The restaurant is empty most of the time and it's really sad because the food is greet. The service is nice with really friendly staff. This restaurant is great for private parties too!

Random day for a foodie experience, just the way I like it! Sometime a few months ago I stumbled upon a groupon for $27.00 that was worth $50.00. I tell you yelpies, was def worth it. The location is beautiful and the weather was perfect for outdoor seating so we sat outside. We were immediately greeted with water and breadsticks as we waited for our bread to be served warm as we read the menu. I decided to start with a peroni. Delicious cold Italian beer. I ordered crab ravioli in a cream saffron sauce and the boyfriend ordered a veal parm. Both dishes were delicious! We were both full so bypassed dessert, but I still had an espresso. Very very good btw. All was wonderful in regards to the food. Now, the verdict on the server. C- When we walked into the front door he didn't greet us. He stared with a blank expression. I asked for a table for 2, he didn't bother with any pleasantries, just lead us to a table and plopped down the menus and asked if we were going to drink something. (We weren't offered a wine list or any drink specials) I asked what beers, and he irritatedly began to list them. He came a few minutes later to take our order, and that was the last we saw him until we had to checkout. I wasn't very impressed by his apathetic behavior, but it wasn't horrible. If I am to return ( likely) I hope my experience is complete with a server that earns his tip. ( I didn't mention the groupon til the end to avoid poor service). I hope to have an updated review and move those 4 stars to 5! Also, a gorgeous place for a baby shower, bridal shower, or graduation party!

I went on a Saturday for brunch, it was good but not the best. The best part was the garden and the natural atmosphere that surrounds you while having your meal. Very pleasant but the food was average.

We love going here for late night drinks and to listen to the piano player and the singer. Tonight was the first night that we went for dinner. The waiter got one order totally wrong. My dinner came burnt and I ate some of it until the waiter came over so I could get it exchanged for one that was not burnt. Well the next one was half raw. I showed him that it was uncooked. They took it back to the kitchen and cut out a little section that was cooked correctly then brouhht it out to me and take a look at it it was cooked just fine. The waiter and the manager argued with us. then they tried to charge me for the small part of the first piece that I ate. needless to say while the bar and the singer and the piano player are great the dining experience was absolutely horrendous. I'm really sad because we waited 2 months to celebrate a friends birthday.

This is such a romantic restaurant and the food is great! They have a full bar and a good wine selection. The restaurant it located in the historic La Palma Hotel, but I don't think it is really a hotel anymore. Valet parking is available but there's no need to use it as close by metered street parking spaces are almost always open.

Went with my better half on a slow, lazy Wednesday night to use our Groupon which wasn't valid on weekends. We sat outside under the beautifully lit palm trees close to the fountain. The ambiance couldn't have been better. When we arrived, we were seated by the manager who was extremely attentive. He even put a chair next to me so I can place my purse.... That was incredibly thoughtful. Dinner was delicious though unfortunately, they were out of the avocado and crab appetizer that we had hoped for, but the crab ravioli and the ham /fontana cheese ravioli in mushroom sauce more than made up for it. We had the house Chianti and it was very, very good. The manager had suggested a bottle they had on special but we opted for the "by the glass" since we knew we probably wouldn't have an entire bottle - and we were right! We were so satisfied and full we opted for just some coffee rather than dessert. All in all, service was great, food was delicious, ambiance was romantic. I would highly suggest everyone get the Groupon to give this little gem a try. It can be pricey but I think you get the value for your money

Just had the lunch special buffet. Really poor quality. Beef like shoe leather, sad salads. The patio could be nice but is neglected. No colorful flowers. Appears that the owner does not care. It looked good from a distanced which is where it will be in the future.

Went for a business lunch today. Very nice place. Old Spanish house. Nice feeling. The place has a very nice courtyard that if it weren't for the extreme heat I probably would sat there. Great all you can eat buffet for lunch. Huge variety of food. Excellent service! Will have to go back and try the menu some day.

Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. I had the lobster ravioli, delicious. They have an outside courtyard with twinkly lights on the trees, romantic. They even have a pianist on the weekends. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Will be back.

My in-laws hosted our rehearsal dinner here, and it was beyond perfect. They were very accommodating, and had first-class service. We had the outside terrace completely to ourselves. The food is delicious. We love Mateo, the singer who come on the weekends. He is great!

What an utter disappointment. We had a party of 6 for a 90th birthday and had a wonderful server, the only reason for a second star. We had a few bottles of wine that were priced accordingly, no discrepancies there. We had an order of the caprese salad, we were told it would be enough for the table, wrong. We were told the specials and I always tend to lean towards the recommendations of the server and he made the scallop dish sound as if I wouldn't die happy without having it. Everyone ordered a little something different as we are a close family and don't mind sharing. When the entrees came we all dung in, literally had to dig into out food. All of the seafood was over cooked, tasteless and underwhelming. I had the scallops with a black risotto. I was 6 what seemed to be scallops the size of a quarter and a mushy pile of black stuff. Completely visually unappealing. My husband had the Fra Diavlo pasta and had the same emotions. Since we were celebrating a 90th birthday, causing a scene was out of the question. Everyone at the table was like minded. Terrible. There was entertainment and we had a great time dancing along to the mixed music. They did bring out their Tiramisu for the Birthday boy, a nice touch. Kicker, 2 of the 6 ended up with food poisoning, I was one. WIll never return.

This is my 2nd time at La Palma. First time I has the buffet which was amazing for only 13.95. 2nd time we ordered sea bass and ossobuco. The sea bass was very good but the ossobuco was poetry dissolving in your mouth. Our waiter Eduardo could not have been more attentive and accommodating. On a not-so-hot day, I suggest eating in the patio of this gorgeous Coral Gables historic landmark.

Only have been here for the buffet lunch, which wasn't what I was expecting. It had some very good salad and antipasta, but not a lot of pasta. They had sliced meats and potato like you find on other kinds of buffets, so whatever you are looking for you should be able to find. I wish there were more pasta selections (this is an Italian restaurant). Price was a little high for a buffet.

It's my first visit; read about the buffet at Yelp and happen to be in the neighborhood for lunch, When I walked in, I thought, this place is beautiful! Especially at this time of the year with the Christmas tree and all that. Totally a place you can bring a nice date. The wait staff is friendly and attentive too. The buffet is attractively displayed. There are plenty of antipasti: tomato with mozz, marinated mushroom, cured meat, cheese, greens, roasted red pepper, grilled eggplant, various type of salads. Delicious enough. I'd prefer the eggplant parmigiano to be warm. For meat, there is turkey and ham sliced to order. For hot food, there is some yellow rice (!) and penne in red cream, and some sausage swimming in brown sauce. Kind of expect the pasta to be something fancier and a notch above an average cafeteria buffet. The fish soup is rather delicious, and about the only hot food in the buffet. Would be great if there is some nice, crusty, rustic bread to go with it. We got our fill from the antipasti and soup, as the pasta and meat is rather uninspiring. It makes for a rather healthy meal, at a reasonable price. If you prefer heartier meals, you will likely not be very satisfied (like my husband). I do wish they have food to match the beautiful decor.

I went for dinner with a party of 20 and not one complaint. The food was very good, personal fave is the seafood linguini. Even dividing the bill was easy. The only reason I give it 4 stars is for the prices, I don't feel it's worth spending an average of $100 per 2 ppl.

Like a previous reviewer, I myself have also been to too many baby and bridal showers at La Palma. Last night I went for the dinner to try the Miami Spice menu with friends and it was ok. When we walked in, the restaurant was completely empty. The staff was shocked to see us, as if we were some sort of aliens. They all immediately got up and greeted us at the door which I found rather amusing. We were immediately seated and handed our menus. We all agreed to order all the options on the MS menu and share amongst ourselves. For appetizers they offered crab cakes, prosciutto and a salmon carpaccio. I myself ordered the salmon carpaccio which in my opinion was the best out of the three. The prosciutto was nothing out of this world and the crab cakes weren't the best nor the worse. The entrees were very safe, and somewhat boring. They offered tortellini, NY strip steak, swordfish and veal. My friends and I were very disappointed with the tortellini. I think Bertoli's frozen pasta was better than this dish. The veal and NY strip steak were good, and the swordfish by far was the best. For dessert we chose a flan and a cheesecake and sadly the cheesecake disappointed. I personally did not like the presentation of the food, not that it matters to me that much, but the dishes looked kinda sad, I don't know... Overall, the food was good but again, too safe and nothing special. The ambience is nice for a romantic dinner but I must admit being the only ones in the restaurant was a bit awkward. I think La Palma's brunches are more successful. I won't be visiting La Palma again anytime soon unless I get invited for another baby or bridal shower brunch. I took some pics of some of the dishes, not the best pics but o well, deal with it! :o)

My husband and I visited La Palma Ristorante for the first time on Sunday, 1/27/13, for brunch which was advertised for $29.99. We parked at one of the parking meters surrounding the location, the first meter took our money. We suggest you try the meter with a dime so you can verify if the meter works, do not put in quarters in case you lose what you put in. There was a baby shower taking place in the open courtyard, we sat inside as it was a very windy morning. The inside is nicely set up and the building has a lot of history. There was a great variety of food spread out on several long, connected tables: cheeses, fruits, salmon, cold cuts, cold salads, lasagna, eggplant, yellow rice with seafood and a station where an employee cooked eggs to order. Mimosa and something else were offered, one per person, free of charge. Sodas and coffee were also free of charge and with refills. Service at our table was excellent, all the waiters were prompt and courteous except for one who didn't look like he was all there, he was very brusque and had a bewildered look at all times. RE: Peel & Eat shrimp. I put several on my plate and after eating a couple decided I didn't want to eat any more. They were not cold enough the way cold seafood should be kept and served and when I peeled the shells, they didn't feel right. And I love shrimp! RE: Eggplant. I believe eggplant was offered in two varieties. To my taste, both were unappetizing and tasteless as well as greasy. RE: Imitation crab salad. Folks, why even bother to put this dish on a table which offers so many other quality items? Imitation crab is nothing but a sham! RE: Yellow rice with seafood. To us, this was the best dish offered and it's what filled us up. RE: Employee manning the station where eggs were cooked. We could immediately tell he was inexperienced, flustered and nervous. I specified 'no mushrooms' in my omelette. When he was done he asked if I had said no cheese. He had put mushrooms in my omelet. He proceeded to slide onto my plate the puniest, sickest looking omelette I've ever received at any brunch I've attended. Once I cut into the omelette, it was extremely runny and partially uncooked even though I waited a long, long time for the omelette to be done. He had to put it back into the frying pan to cook it longer. A table at the front was filled with a large variety of deserts. We tried the flan, the dark chocolate cake and an almond tarte. All were very good, the chocolate cake was excellent. Since the only hot food that appealed to us and which we found appetizing was the yellow rice with seafood and since we each had one soft drink and a desert and a half, we believe that paying $29.95 + tax + gratuity is too much for us to pay for this brunch. However, if you're the type of person who actually eats almost every item offered at a brunch then this is a good deal for you. Not being able to enjoy the peel & eat shrimp was truly disappointing for us. We don't think we'll return for another brunch. Our total for two persons inc. tax and tip was $74.69.

I read a bunch of the other reviews and while my experience wasn't the same, I understand that some people have higher expectations than others. I was with a group of corporate reps for a pharma conference, there were 20 of us. The guy paying ordered apps for the entire table and wine as well. Both were great and my wine glass was kept full. I had the risotto with scallops and was not disappointed, great flavors and everyone else got their plates at the same time I did, good service. I would go back again.

$13 lunch buffet within walking distance from work? Yes please. My bosses and I go here all the time, with or without each other. (But it's nice when they go since they pay!) I love the food. The fresh salad and the tomatoes with mozzarella are so awesome. And the mushrooms!!!! And there's usually eggplant parmigiano, which is good. And of course there are the meats, but I tend to fill myself up on the antipasti which are so good. I haven't been here for dinner in almost 4 years, but I remember being very satisfied with it. As soon as I associate something with work, I tend to drop it off my after-work hours radar. The location is so incredibly pretty. The courtyard is great, and when you get a nice breeze going you forget you're in Florida. I can see why the other reviewers said they've been to so many showers and luncheons here. It's just a really pretty place. The service is great. I've never used it since I walk there, but they do have valet if you don't want to hassle with finding a parking space. But if you don't mind walking, there's a residential neighborhood two blocks north where you can park on the street, for freeeee!

I came for the lunch buffet yesterday and I greatly enjoyed it! The price for the buffet is the same as a the price of a plate of pasta or anything else on their lunch menu, so you might as well have the buffet that includes salads, meats, and pastas as well as soups. They offer a great selection to choose from with plenty of different salads, two options of meat, there was tortellini and meatballs yesterday- i don't know if they always offer the same thing- but it was delicious, filling, and a great bang for your buck! Now for the dessert, we tried the amaretto cake- and although it didn't taste like amaretto- IT.WAS.AMAZING!!! It had layers of pastry, toasted meringue, and whipped cream, it was phenomenal! After trying that, their tiramisu, although good- didn't compare! Great service as well, our server was amusing and laughed with us after ordering two desserts- one for each of us, screw the diet!

I've been here a couple of times now... I LOVE the all you can eat lunch buffet... DELICIOUS!! I LOVE the mushrooms... potato salad... always 2 type of meat for cutting at the end of the bar... usually a soup of the day... bread is hidden on the other side, but who needs to fill up on bread when the food is so good! the dessert cart is great as well... chocolate mousse cake is fantastic! the coffee is good too... both coffee and dessert is not included on the buffet price... this is definitely my lunch choice when in the gables now...

My gf and I stayed at the Hyatt which is across the street. It was 945pm on a sunday and they closed at 10. I called to see if it was possible to still come for a quick dinner. they were very nice and said it would be no problem! we were the only ones in there and it was GREAT! the patio area is very nice!!! the garlic and oil mixture they put out for your bread was very good! my girlfriend had the crab ravioli and i had the spinach torteliini and they were both amazing. cost was $20 for each. I would recommend this place for some Italian if in the area.

This is a good place for a business lunch, conveniently located with easy parking or valet. They have a great meeting room in the back. The menu is simple yet complete. The service is consistently good. Their Ossobuco is quite good, also the moon shape tortellini is quite satisfying. Ask for your favorite wine, they will probably have it in stock. Cheers

The lunch buffet is great - fresh with a wide selection. The atmosphere is also very pleasant with both indoor and outdoor seating. I've been lucky enough to be treated to work holiday lunch here for the past 4 years and always look forward to it. The key lime pie is also very good.

I arranged for a group of friends to go here for Miami Spice. I was given a hard time about a "large group" wanting to order from the Miami Spice menu. The service was slow (20+ minutes just to get the check). And the food was average. The restaurant itself was nice, and the live music was nice. Not a great deal for Miami Spice. I have eaten in restaurants with 100 times better food and service and paid the same price from the Spice menu. All in all probably won't be going back.

You know that place that you want to entirely adore because you had that one big romantic rendezvous there? But then the place is so mediocre that you can't think of anything to say about it beyond: "I had a big romantic rendezvous there"? That's La Palma for me. Their lunch buffet is plentiful, kind of like a reverse Woody Allen joke: "The food is horrible, and the portions so BIG!" You wish you could escape to the beautiful courtyard. That said, it's a huge place and probably the best priced reception lounge in the Miracle Mile area, so if you're just having a dinner meeting or an engagement party or something of that sort, this might be the place. La Palma, I'll keep my big romantic rendezvous. You keep your never ending table of sucky cheeses.

I have been here for brunch in the past so I was really looking forward to coming here on Sunday. Unfortunately, the way I remembered it was not the way it was. There will not be one positive thing in this review and not because of the servers or the place but the food.. it was terrible. I was starving so I ordered a coffee and went to town on the buffet. First go around I had some salami, tomato mozzerella, shrimp and an omlette. All the cold food was warm and the omlette was runny and yucky. Second go around I got a bagel it was stale. Third go around, I got lasagna.. it was awful. I left.. went to hooters and had something to eat. For 40.00 it was definitely not worth it. They need to go back to the drawing board and establish the place to the times of old.. the way it should be and the way it was when it was actually good.

Four of us went to celebrate a friend's birthday... and I am glad I didn't recommend this place - because it was horrible. The dining room was pretty empty and the service started slow. The first courses arrive - an the all looked and smelled wonderful: caprese salad, beef carpaccio, and sauteed scallops. Everything went down hill after that. My medium steak arrive well done, charred and very dry it was served with fried potato that were raw on the inside; irregular chopped and flavorless vegetables all on top of undressed salad greens. Dry and unappetizing. The Balsamic Salmon arrived burned underneath with the same mess of potatoes and vegetables. The pasta arrived overly sauced and over cooked. The veal arrive okay - though nothing impressive enough to save the entire meal. The desserts were okay; nothing special or that I could not have gotten in the frozen section of a market. I don't recommend La Palma to anyone. It was, be far, the worst Italian restaurant that I have ever eaten at for dinner.

We came for the Miami Spice lunch. However, after viewing the buffet , we opted for it. There was crab, shrimp, bean, slaw, tomato roasted vegetable, eggplant, tuna, pasta, potato, and olive salads. Hot items included creole rice, pastas, soup, veal, carved beef and turkey, and eggplant parm. Everything was fresh and tasty! Service, wine, and atmosphere were great! Can't wait to go back!

I have been to more baby and bridal showers here than I care to admit. The brunch is never good. The lunch buffet suffers from the same fatality: everything is mediocre. I am not sure what the appeal of this place is. Maybe it is the beautiful courtyard or the cheap brunch and lunch buffet prices? The place has so much potential. It's in a great location and it's very pretty. It angers me that the food has been sub par for years. I walk by here almost everyday and in the evening it is usually empty. I wish they would get the hint from the empty tables and hire a chef that would bring the restaurant to the next level and offer the Gables a great culinary experience instead of what it has for years.

After walking past this place for months and admiring the courtyard seating, finally decided to give it a try when family was visiting and we wanted a nice meal. The best thing I can say about this place is the courtyard is beautiful to sit in at night and enjoy a good glass of wine. The food was really nothing special, not bad but also not very memorable italian. If I came back again I'd probably just do wine and appetizers in the courtyard.

La Palma really started promising when I booked a reservation with Marlon (who is awesome and very accommodating) for a party of 24 people on Saturday afternoon. Marlon gave us a great set menu for the price that we were looking for. Unfortunately, once at the actual restaurant, it was a bit of a disaster. We were given the option of two entree's: chicken marsala or penne bolognese. All of the orders of chicken marsala arrived raw to our table. We had to send them all back and everyone got penne bolognese. Some people were given ravioli (which were obviously pre-frozen). Because they were now scrambling to serve everyone the penne, some of the plates arrived half empty and with very little sauce. While the salad was good, the flan was not very appetizing. I think management needs to have a little more pride in what they are serving to guests for a better experience. Do note that Sunday Brunch here is pretty good though.

My wife and I went for a late night dinner with our puppy today, we loved how beautiful the outdoors is. When we got there the attention was poor, without effort on the hospitality ethic. We had the Beef Carpaccio which it was good then shared the New York stake which it was great but a little undercooked then when we got to dessert time they pushed to giving the check then as soon as we paid and got up they turned all lights off and locked the door before closing time. I would like to try them some other time but perhaps during lunch time or so. We at least took pretty good pictures of ourselves

Honestly this place is perfect and romantic I have been there many times, even for a Private Event (Baby Shower) The food is delicious and on weekends (fri and sat) at 8pm they have a live entertainment which is a singer and a piano player, very romantic as I mentioned before. They have a Full Bar and Excellent Menu I have to mention the Beautiful Courtyard with a water fountain and trees. You feel like you are out of Miami !!! Also, They have Valet Parking with an appropriate rate so you don't have to worry about parking in Gables.

Came for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with my mom. Apparently they are usually closed for lunch on Saturdays but there was a private party going on so luckily they let us in. The atmosphere is very nice. There is a courtyard outside with seating that is a very cute area to eat in. I had the tortelloni giulietta e Romeo (ravioli with spinach and ricotta in a light red sauce). It was tasty but nothing special. The bread was actually amazing though. It was warm and perfect for picking up my left over sauce. My mom hd the seared tuna salad. The tuna was great! I had a few bites of the salad and wished I had ordered that instead. All in all the restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and they serve good food but nothing out of this world for the price.

I've been here several times and still not impressed. The last time I came was the worst. Service was terrible. Our server was not pleasant at all. Rude. Took him 15 minutes to come back and tell us there wasn't avocado for the lump crab cake. So we ordered the scallops which were good. We asked him if it was going to take long and he responded "Are you in a hurry?" Our entrees were bland. The sea bass piccata was very small for the price and sauce wasn't that great. The shrimp with Gorgonzola did not taste like Gorgonzola whatsoever. Tasted like bland Alfredo sauce. The prices are ridiculous for the quality of food.

I like the courtyard for seating out during lunch in the day but you have also the option of indoor seating and dinning on the Bar, The lunch buffet provides with a wide selection of food items allowing you to have variety or also go on the light side, i like more ordering from the menu though and enjoyed the Pasta Variety, they have the Extra Extra Wide Fettuccine, I have not seen this in almost any other Italian restaurant I love it and will go there just for this item Delicious !

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

The food was good but nothing out of this world. I was very disappointed with the service though. Extremely slow and disorganized.

Not impressed. Slow service and food had a lot left to be desired... A shame as the location is great...

Beautiful setting, gorgeous courtyard, tasty italian. Great ambiance. Perfect for a romantic italian throwback. Nothing was bad. Pasta is fresh.

Disgusting!

Food is great, the service is very friendly and I love the live music.

DELICIOUS!! I LOVE the mushrooms... potato salad... always 2 type of meat for cutting at the end of the bar... usually a soup of the day... bread is hidden on the other side, but who needs to fill up on bread when the food is so good! the dessert cart is great as well... chocolate mousse cake is fantastic! the coffee is good too... both coffee and dessert is not included on the buffet price... this is definitely my lunch choice when in the gables now...

we had a real bad experience for the sunday's brunch by the time we arrived around 1:45 pm the buffet look like left over the fish was gone, the paella had just end it. i asked the waiter if will bring more and his answer no more definitely we wont return

Cheers
(4)Carlos R.
Pretty nice place, had the lunch buffet. They had many options including freshly cut turkey and beef. Atmosphere is perfect for a meeting. Didn't foot the bill, so not sure of the price.
(3)Jessica A.

(1)Andrea C.
(5)Kelly O.
(2)Krissy K.

(3)Laura R.
(5)Kerry O.
(3)Hernani A.
We came for miami spice in 2014 and it was pretty good. Excellent service, beautiful place and good food. Is a little pricey do better keep it for a special ocassion, we were pleased with this restaurant and would go back. Their tiramisu is amazing!
(4)Y L.
(2)Joshua M.
